An Interview for Go Podcast

Anastasia Fedorova is an award-winning Ukrainian Canadian painter. She creates beautiful multilayer oil paintings using the traditional Italian technique impasto. All of her multilayer oil paintings have a thick and rich texture. The main subjects of Anastasia’s oil paintings are conceptualized landscape, cityscape, and floral pieces. She usually starts her work from nature doing her Plein-airs outside in nature because the direct experience is very important to her. Anastasia won numerous International art awards and has a long history of solo and group exhibitions.
Virtual Exhibition “Nature`s Wonderland: Seeing, Feeling, Being“

https://www.kefiartgallery.com/current-exhibition
Anastasia is exhibiting two of multilayer oil paintings “Path of Hope“ and “False Creek. Being Grateful“ at the virtual exhibition organized by Kefi Art Gallery.
Anastasia`s reflection on the exhibition theme:
"I usually start my work from nature doing my plein-airs outside in nature because direct experience is very important to my practice. For me, creating art means to be present in the moment. My mode of perception of this world is made through a direct experience of the immediate presence. My goal is coming back to the ultimate source, which is nature, and to ourselves.
In my works, I am often trying to transport the viewer to the better, sometimes idealized world. My oil paintings are incredibly optimistic and have a meditative quality to them. I believe that beauty and positivity help to educate our souls. Ugliness and chaos, on the other hand, destroy the spirit preventing us from growing and developing. The most important purpose of art, therefore, is not only to make people feel better, but also help them to become better versions of themselves."
Art Curator Liza Zhurkovskaya about the exhibition:
“Mother Nature is a magical muse! It has always been a source of inspiration for artists. “Nature’s Wonderland: Feeling, Seeing, Being” group exhibition aims to inspire the viewers to find beauty everywhere and invites them to explore how artists depict the magnificence of our planet. The show will include art and statements by selected artists. While examining the relationship between nature and art, we will also raise important questions of climate change, preservation of natural habitat, and how we, as city dwellers, can co-exist with nature in harmony. We all have a moment in life when we long for being close to nature. One way is to bring nature indoors in a form of original fine art!”
“Nature`s Wonderland: Seeing, Feeling, Being“ Virtual Exhibition is running for the whole month of April.

Estimate: $600-800
YKLM’s first Canadian and International Contemporary Art Auction will take place on Tuesday, November 12, and will feature local artists from the Greater Vancouver area. Among the collection, artist Anastasiia Fedorova captures the vitality of the Canadian landscape through her dynamic painting approach. The spontaneity of her plein-air explorations of the West Coast landscape is conveyed with a vibrant colour palette, thus rendering the natural environment in rich and vivid details.
Fedorova’s bold impasto technique leaves impressions of her dynamic movements, creating fluid curves of paint on the canvas. Each of her paintings carry a unique textural quality that serve to shape the subjects of her Canadian landscapes. For example, in her painting Happy House, the clouds are delicately painted in thin, long brushstrokes, reminiscent of the diaphanous quality of cirrus clouds. The painterly application of the grass however, is abundantly tapered with paint, thus conveying the notion of a dense vegetation bordering the ocean.
In her work, Pond at Olympic Village, the artist relies upon a combination of a deep, jewel-toned palette and linear structures to merge the Canadian wilderness and cityscape into one. The flora surrounding the body of water extends outwards and, in this way, indicates the tall buildings encircling the pond. Although the buildings are barely visible in the background, they cast a large reflection upon the surface of the water, providing a sense of symmetry. In this way, the traditional method of Canadian landscape painting has been interrupted, by the growing presence of urbanism. This contemporary approach in depicting the Canadian landscape acknowledges the structural similarities that develop within urbanization and the wild, allowing the viewer to transition between passive observation, to active consideration.
