ARTIST STATEMENT

For me, creating art means to be present in the moment. My mode of perception of this world is made through a direct experience of the immediate presence. My goal is coming back to the ultimate source, which is nature, and to ourselves. I believe that nature and natural forms are the pathways to contemplation and creation.

All my paintings start from nature where I am trying to transport the viewer to the better, sometimes idealized world. I see nature as a teacher, who makes me investigate the shape, color and ephemeral movements of the environment. By using a vibrant colorful palette and thick loaded brushstrokes I am emphasizing the dynamism and movement in nature.

I believe that beauty helps to educate our souls. Ugliness and chaos, on the other hand, destroys our spirit and prevents us from growing and developing. The most important purpose of art, therefore, is not only to make people feel better, but also help them to become better versions of themselves.

BIO

Anastasia Fedorova is an award-winning Ukrainian Canadian painter based in Vancouver, Canada. For over 20 years, Anastasia has been creating unique multilayer oil paintings using her innovative multilayer oil technique and traditional Italian technique impasto. Her every painting has many layers of oil paintings that she carefully paints one on top of another. Anastasia`s works struck with their incredible depth, and vivid and sumptuous colours. All of her multilayer oil paintings are filled with sculptural brushstrokes, and have an extremely thick and rich texture.

The main subjects of Anastasia`s oil paintings are conceptualized landscape, cityscape and floral pieces. She is very fond of her regular plein-airs. She loves to start her work outside in nature because direct experience is very important to her practice.

Anastasia Fedorova won numerous international art awards and has a long history of solo and group exhibitions in art museums and galleries around the globe. In 2013 Anastasia was presenting her home country Ukraine at IX Florence Biennale of Contemporary Art in Florence, Italy. The same year, she was a participant of the 55th Venice Biennale and International art project Passagio in Laguna in Venice, Italy.
Anastasia is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and International Association of Artists.

In 2023 Anastasia was awarded with fine art Lifetime Achievement Award - Prize Michelangelo “The Genius of Italy” in Rome, Italy.
